How to Play the Threshing Day Game (Dragonkind)
Dragonkind is the official game of the Threshing Day campaign — a browser experience where you take the same trial cadets face in the books: enter the Vale, stand before the dragons, and hope one chooses you. This Dragonkind walkthrough covers everything from the login code to your dragon result, plus what to do when things go wrong.
Step-by-step: playing the Threshing Day game
- Open the official game. Go to dragonkind.com, the official Dragonkind experience for the Threshing Day campaign. It runs entirely in your browser on desktop and mobile — there is no app to download and nothing to install.
- Sign in with your email. Enter your email address and request a login code. The code arrives by mail; if it is slow, check spam and give it a couple of minutes before requesting another one.
- Enter the code and set up your cadet. Type the code from your inbox to unlock the game, then set up your first-year cadet profile. This email becomes your save file for the whole campaign — the same login carries your dragon, squad, and future signet.
- Walk into the Vale. The Vale is where the dragons wait. Each attempt is a short sequence of choices — how you answer shapes how the dragons read you. There is no timer inside a run, so take the decisions seriously.
- Bond or burn. If a dragon chooses you, you receive a result line with a dragon name, tail, color, and lineage, plus a wing, section, and squad assignment. If not, you are burned — and the game starts its 4:00 retry countdown.
- Wait out the 4:00 countdown and try again. After a burn you cannot re-enter until the countdown ends. Use a retry timer, step back in when it hits zero, and keep going — most players burn several times before a dragon bonds with them.
The login code, explained
The most common hiccup in the Threshing Day game is the email code. Three things fix it almost every time: check your spam folder first, wait two or three minutes before re-requesting, and only keep one code request pending at a time — players report that stacking multiple requests can invalidate earlier codes. If the code still does not land, try a different browser or restart the flow with the same email; your progress is tied to the address, not the device.
What your choices do in the Vale
Every run of the Dragonkind game is a sequence of decisions — how you act, what you prioritize, how you face the dragons circling you. The game does not publish the mechanics, and no confirmed route to a specific dragon exists. What players agree on: results feel personal, different choices produce different dragons, and there is no single “right answer” that guarantees a bond. Treat each attempt as its own Threshing rather than a puzzle to solve.
What your dragon result means
A successful Threshing gives you a line that reads like the introductions in the books: a dragon name, a tail type (swordtail, daggertail, clubtail, scorpiontail, or morningstartail), a color, and a lineage. You are also assigned to a wing, section, and squad — the same structure Violet Sorrengail enters in Fourth Wing as a member of Second Wing, Flame Section, Third Squad. Our dragon guide breaks down what each color and tail type means in the series, and which combinations players have reported so far.
Being burned is part of it
In the books, the Threshing is brutal, and the game keeps that spirit: dragons that are not interested incinerate your cadet. A burn starts a 4:00 countdown, and you cannot re-enter until it ends. Community reports put the typical count at three or four burns before a bond sticks, so do not read one burn — or even three — as the end of your cadet. Keep attempts spaced, read how each run goes, and adjust your choices. If you want a bigger countdown to watch, the Dragonkind retry timer counts the same four minutes and keeps running even if you close the tab.
Tips from players so far
- One code at a time. Stack login-code requests and the earlier ones may stop working; wait for the newest mail before re-requesting.
- Play your first run fresh. Several players who bonded on an early attempt went in with no retries behind them — no one has proven whether retry history matters, but it is the closest thing to a pattern so far.
- Save your result. Screenshot your dragon line and your wing, section, and squad — the signet phase will attach to this same email login later.
- Bookmark a status page. The campaign rolls out in phases; our Dragonkind status tracker keeps you current without refreshing the official site.
After the bond: signets
The game is teasing a signet phase that has not opened yet — the moment your rider gains a power through the bond, the way Violet channels lightning and Xaden wields shadows in the novels. No unlock date has been announced. Check the status page for the current countdown, or read our signet guide for what the books say to expect and how the phase will probably roll out.
Tip: your result is saved to your email login, so you can close the tab and come back without losing your dragon, squad, or progress toward the signet phase.
