Threshing Day Game: How to Play the Official Dragonkind Game
The Threshing Day game is Dragonkind — the official interactive experience Rebecca Yarros’ team launched on October 1, 2026 for the Empyrean series. You play a first-year cadet at Basgiath War College, walk into the Vale, and stand in front of dragons that either bond with you or incinerate you. This guide explains how to start, what the retry countdown means, and what is coming next in the campaign.
What is Dragonkind?
Dragonkind is the name of the official Threshing Day game — and it is also the word the books use for dragons themselves. It was built by the author’s team to accompany Threshing Day, the new Empyrean novella released in late September 2026, and it went live on October 1, 2026 at dragonkind.com. Unlike the fan simulators that popped up around the launch, Dragonkind is the real thing: it saves your result to your email login, assigns you to a wing, section, and squad, and is teasing a signet phase that unlocks later in the campaign.
Why everyone is talking about the Threshing
In the Empyrean novels, Threshing is the most important day of a cadet’s life: the dragons of Basgiath War College circle the field and choose which riders they will bond with. It is how Violet Sorrengail — small, fragile, and expected to die — ends up bonded to not one but two dragons in Fourth Wing. The game recreates that ritual for the reader: you make choices in the Vale, the dragons read you, and one either claims you or burns you. That mix of ritual and risk is why the Threshing Day game spread across BookTok within days of launch.

How the Dragonkind game works
You enter the game at dragonkind.com with an email login — a code arrives in your inbox, you type it back, and your cadet is ready. Each attempt is a short sequence of choices in the Vale. How you answer shapes how the dragons read you. If a dragon chooses you, you get a result line with a dragon name, a tail type, a color, and a lineage — plus an assignment to a wing, section, and squad, just like the cadets of Second Wing, Flame Section, Third Squad in the books. Our dragon guide explains what every color and tail in the result means.
Bond or burn: the retry countdown
If no dragon chooses you, you are burned — and the Threshing Day game locks you out with a 4:00 countdown before you can try again. Burns are not failure; most players go through several before a bond sticks, and the results are part of the fun. When your cooldown ends, our retry timer page is an easy way to watch the clock — it keeps counting even if you close the tab.
The signet phase is coming
In the Empyrean books, a rider’s signet — the power that channels the bond — reveals itself after the bond forms: Violet wields lightning, Xaden commands shadows. The official game is teasing a signet phase of its own with a countdown on the site, and it has not opened yet. That is the next big moment in the campaign, and it will only be reachable by riders who have already bonded a dragon. We keep the current state on the Dragonkind status page and explain the background in our signet guide.
Official game or fan site?
A quick warning as the campaign grows: several fan-made “Threshing simulators” and “signet quizzes” now rank in search results next to the official game. They can be fun, but they are not Dragonkind — they cannot save your dragon, and they will never grant your signet. The only official Threshing Day game is at dragonkind.com. This site is a fan guide too, and it will always tell you plainly which is which.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Threshing Day game?
The Threshing Day game is Dragonkind, the official interactive experience built for Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series. It launched on October 1, 2026 alongside the Threshing Day book. You play a first-year cadet who enters the Vale and faces the dragons.
Where do I play it?
The official game lives at dragonkind.com. You sign in with an email address, request a login code, and step into the Threshing. There is no app to install.
What happens if a dragon burns me?
You are incinerated in the Vale and locked out with a 4:00 retry countdown. Many players report being burned three or four times before a dragon bonds with them. Our free retry timer counts the cooldown down with you.
Is the Threshing Day game free?
Yes. Dragonkind is free to play and only asks for an email address to log in. There is nothing to buy and nothing to install.
Do I need to read the books first?
No. The game works on its own, but readers of Fourth Wing and the Empyrean series will recognize the lore: the Vale, the Threshing, wings, sections, and squads all come straight from the novels.
When does the signet phase open?
The signet phase is not open yet. The official site teases it with a countdown, and no unlock date has been announced. We track the current phase status on our status page and update it as the campaign moves.
Is this site official?
No. ThreshingDayGame.app is an independent fan guide. We are not affiliated with Rebecca Yarros, Entangled Publishing, or Red Tower Books. The game itself is official and lives at dragonkind.com.
New here? The fastest path: open the how-to-play guide, keep the status page bookmarked for the signet countdown, and use the retry timer while you wait out a burn.
